When shopping for diamond rings or jewelry one of the first things most jewelers and jewelry experts wish to educate us on are the 4C’s of diamonds. If you aren’t aware of what the 4C’s are they stand for the cut, carat, color and clarity. It’s generally understood that the most important factor of a diamond is the cut of a diamond with respect to its beauty because the cut essentially determines how well the diamond sparkles. Although the clarity, color and carat are important factors as well, the cut still holds priority when it comes to a diamond’s beauty.
In today’s Spotlight we connect with a gentleman who also makes rings, jewelry and more, but not with diamonds.
As a matter of fact these pieces don’t have anything to do with the 4C’s of diamonds, but they are cut and fashioned from man-made and natural materials from all over mother Earth that contribute heavily to their attractiveness. Quite frankly that’s what I love about the pieces of Earth Chunks by J Carpenter, they are highly attractive, one-of-a-kind and styled to fit every taste – especially mine!
Read more about the best advice J’s ever received, which is something we all need to hear and what he loves most about the Dirty South!
What’s your name & where are you from: J Carpenter, born in Houston and raised in Corpus Christi.
What do you do & what inspired you to do it: I am an artist by trade, I let the creativity flow into various things but as of the last few years it’s been alternative style rings. I try to push the limits of what people consider a normal ring by bringing in materials that were never intended to become part of fashion. Making rings with classic surfboard resins to the superconductors used in MRI machines and transmission shafts from race used Formula 1 cars. What inspires me is making something the final wearer will truly appreciate and treasure for a lifetime, you could call it a legacy of rings.
Best business or personal advice you’ve ever received: The best advice I have ever gotten is the simple phrase “I believe in you” from a complete stranger and now one of my closest long distance friends. I was given so much positivity at a time I needed it dearly so that’s something I try to pass along to anyone trying to forge their own path in this world.
Favorite thing to do for fun: The only thing I enjoy more than my craft is time with my wife and three kids doing whatever they want to do!
Any words of advice or encouragement for those who wish to follow in your footsteps: Spread positivity, you never know when you will be setting the first stone in that person’s future. Just one kind word is all it takes to make a smile. Be fair in business be honest in life and you will go farther than you imagine.
What do you love most about the Dirty South: What don’t I love about this place is the real question. I would say the climate, most people really hate the heat but I prefer it to cold and being so close to the beach isn’t hurting it either. LOVE THE DIRTY SOUTH!
