PR Professional Courtney Brand Uses The B Werd to Encourage Women to Chase Their Dreams

In today’s Dirty South Club spotlight we give some shine and our #WCW honors to the delightful Courtney Brand, a PR professional who’s also the creator of theBwerd.com. In a little under a year, Courtney has created a thought provoking community for women who want to build and live their brand and although thebwerd.com was created with women in mind it’s no secret she’s got male readers too. I’m pretty positive I’m not the only cat who has found himself delving deep into the priceless knowledge and wisdom Courtney shares with her readers. I could write all day about the many things I love about her blog, but I won’t do that — today!

I reached out to Courtney to take part in our efforts to spotlight, uplift and celebrate the Dirty South after reading a blog post she had written which I found to be very informative, uplifting and timely for what I was going through. I figured if anyone had taken it upon themselves to give of themselves to others as she has through her blog, I wanted to have her as a part of our DSC family. I mean everybody loves a giver and someone who has something of substance to offer! I sincerely applaud Courtney B. for what she’s doing through thebwerd.com because it takes a lot to open up and share with others your experiences, your knowledge and wisdom, your opinion, your growth; your — self.

Take a moment to read on as Courtney shares some great words of encouragement for those who wish to follow in her footsteps, future plans for the B Werd and what she loves most about the Dirty South.

What’s your name and where are you from:

My name’s Courtney Brand and I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. Alief, to be exact.

What do you do and what inspired you to do it:

I’m a Public Relations professional who recently launched a blog, TheBWerd.com this past January. I’m a very vocal woman, so I feel very compelled to create a platform for women who want to live life on their terms and go after what they really want. I’m a fan of powerful women, and of course strive to be one so I want to openly encourage women to chase their dreams, be the best women they can be, not settle, and explore the life they’ve always desired to live – because it’s possible.

Best business or personal advice you’ve ever received:

My MeeMaw (grandmother) used to tell us as a child “the days are long but the years are short”, meaning whatever you’re going through today won’t last. Soon, you’ll look up and years will have quickly passed. Don’t spend your days doing meaningless things, being in meaningless relationships or being discouraged by meaningless people. If you don’t like something today, change it now.

What do you like to do for fun:

I like to take a lot of naps! LOL – I enjoy reading, shopping and listen to music probably throughout 70% of my day, everyday. Am I the only one addicted to SoundCloud? I travel as time permits, I love seeing new things and eating good food.

Any words of advice or encouragement for those who wish to follow in your footsteps:

Do it now and don’t wait. If you’re waiting for the “perfect time” to do something, you’ll never get anywhere. There’s no perfect time, we create the perfect time. While you’re sitting still, wallowing in your discouragement, someone else who had the guts to follow their dreams is already ten (or 100) steps ahead of you. We all have to start somewhere, no one begins as an expert. Just start!

What’s next for you or what are you working on that we can look out for:

My foreseeable plans are to keep the momentum going on The B Werd, potentially providing my readers with some step-by-step help on how to get going on whatever it is they desire to achieve. I’m solely here to help, to encourage and to guide. If I can continue to find ways to magnetize that, I’ll be pleased.

What do you love most about the Dirty South:

I’ve been a lot of places, and there’s no place like the South. From the mannerisms, to our walks, to the twang in our speech. Southern hospitality is a real thing. Our men are some of the sweetest and our women are some of the most nurturing. Houston specifically, has a culture of its own. I love the versatility of being a city and country girl. You have to be from here to understand the significance of slabs, gray tapes, screwed up click, poppin’ trunks, eighty fours. It sounds silly even saying it out loud, but it’s made me a well-rounded woman without a doubt.
