Today’s Dirty South Club spotlight honors go to Zydeco artist & musician Curley Taylor. I asked Curley if he would take some time out of his schedule to share a bit with us about his background in music, some of the best advice he’s ever received and of course what he loves most about the Dirty South. Take a moment and read on as we go behind the music with Curley below.
What’s your name and where are you from:
Curley Taylor – I’m from the big city of Grand Coteau, LA
What do you do and what inspired you to do it:
I’m the lead singer/accordion and front man of my band (Zydeco Trouble). Music has always been a big part of my family. Both sides of my family play music, so I couldn’t miss it even if I wanted to. [LOL] And anyways I love music!
Best business or personal advice you’ve ever received:
Best advice, or something that was told to me was given by Buddy Guy, he said, If music is what I really love stick with it and see it through. They may have nights you wanna throw in the towel, and you ask yourself why are you doing this? And the very next night, you know more than ever you’re doing exactly what you should! Moral is, follow your soul and spirit!
What do you like to do for fun:
I have a big-big fascination with cars, so if I’m not doing music, I’m some kind of way doing something with cars. [LOL]
Any words of advice or encouragement for those who wish to follow in your footsteps:
Best advice I could give is, know nothing good comes easy. So you have to put in the work for the results you want. Follow your heart, stay true to yourself, because at the end of the day you have to live with yourself. And nothing in the world is worth your happiness.
What’s next for you or what can we look for from you in the near future:
I look forward to creating new music, and expanding my brand worldwide.
What do you love most about the Dirty South:
What I love about the Dirty South? It’s home and we keeps it real from start to finish!
