Changing the World One Girl at a Time With Ericka Ellis

In today’s Dirty South Club spotlight we give some shine and our #WCW honors to writer Ericka Ellis. Ericka took the time to share with us the inspiration behind her love for writing, her mission to Move Foster Girls Forward, and more of what she loves about the Dirty South.

Once you’ve gotten all the dirt on Mrs. Ellis below, be sure to stop by her website ErickaEllis.com to pick up her latest book, ‘Misguided by Love, Redirected by Faith: My Journey to Freedom’ as well as learn more about her non-profit ThinkLoveSmart.com.

What’s your name and where are you from:

My name is Ericka Ellis and I am proud to be from Dallas!

What do you do and what inspired you to do it:

I am a writer and I love it with every part of my being! I am inspired by words on such a deep and profound level! I dream in words!

I use writing as a means to inspire my peers and our youth. I share my struggles, past and present, to help remind my readers they aren’t alone in their issues and to give them hope to keep pushing!

I also founded a non-profit for girls in Foster Care with a mission to, “Move Foster Girls Forward.” I’m a motivator in every sense of the word!

Best business or personal advice you’ve ever received:

Be consistent! Be DILIGENT! You cannot halfway work a business or a dream and expect for it to give you more than what you’ve given it! The process may be slow but it always yields results, so be PATIENT!

What do you like to do for fun:

I love hosting game nights at my house! Being around good friends, talking smack and competing on a friendly level makes me so happy!

I can look around my house and smile because I know I am safe and amongst people who truly love me. That lights up my life!

Any words of advice or encouragement for those who wish to follow in your footsteps:

I would advise those who’d like to follow in my footsteps to BELIEVE IN YOURSELF! Believe in your vision! When you do, you attract people and things to your life that will make the process so much more enjoyable. And discipline is HUGE! It sets us apart from those who are successful and those who are not. To be EXTRAORDINARY, you have to be willing to do MORE than the average person.

What’s next for you or what are you working on that we can look out for:

I recently penned my memoir, “Misguided by Love, Redirected by Faith: My Journey to Freedom” which was released April 2016! This book is so special as it has a message of hope and freedom for all types of people and all walks of life.

In addition to promoting my book and working with Foster youth, I am currently working on a project with my husband. It is still in the beginning stages, so I can’t say too much but please, be on the lookout!

What do you love most about the South:

I love the AUTHENTICITY of the South! We are true to our culture, rather it be food, music, or style of dress; we are true to ourselves.

There’s a feel good vibe we carry and it is known throughout our Nation. The South is all about warmth and comfort–everybody feels welcomed here!
